Pulsed power is the relatively slow accumulation of energy followed by its rapid release, resulting a large amount of instantaneous power. Energy stored in Pulstar’s capacitor prior to the spark is released within nanoseconds, delivering a 5MW pulse of peak power.
Pulstar’s insulator is made of engineered high-purity ceramic, forming a dense barrier between the metal shell (negative plate) and the copper silica gas seal (positive plate.) The insulator acts as a dielectric media, allowing the shell to attract energy but preventing it from crossing. This forces the energy to store on the positive plate until it can cross the spark gap, forming an intense pulse of energy.
Pulstar’s 5MW pulse subjects gaseous atoms to a large amount of energy, breaking them apart to form plasma: a collection of positively and negatively charged highly reactive particles. Plasma created by this high-intensity pulse results in three major benefits in fuel combustion: instant ignition and a quicker and more complete burn.
Because the plasma-forming pulse allows the fuel to ignite immediately and burn rapidly, Pulstar Spark Plugs don't need the extra nanoseconds gained by using a fine wire electrode made durable by precious metals (such as iridium or platinum). Pulstar's electrode life is extended through the use of a larger center wire made of an austenite nickel-chromium-based superalloy known as Inconel.

The truck ran great before and is a real beast now. I will keep an eye out for gas mileage increase. The torque increase was noticeable immediately.

From 1988-1992 Enerpulse’s founder Lou Camilli worked with the Labs’ Ultra High-power Electromagnetics Division to develop a capacitor for use on an internal combustion engine. Scientists and engineers helped Camilli apply pulsed power technology concepts to the development of his spark plug add-on.
From 1998 to 1999 Camilli worked with the Labs again, using their Ceramics department to help condense his capacitor into the footprint of a conventional spark plug. The Labs helped Camilli find a material with the correct dielectric properties to condense his capacitor into the shape of a spark plug.
In 1992 Sandia National Labs became the first to purchase our capacitor for use in their Z machine. Our capacitor is used to ensure all 14 lasers in Sandia’s Z Machine are triggered at precisely the same time.
